Diamonds are measured by carat weight. A carat is broken down into 100 points. If a quarter carat diamond is weighed it will be 25 points, in other words a quarter of 100 points.
Diamond colour is normally graded by a letter. "D" colour is the perfect colour and the rarest. More usual colours used in jewellery are between "D" and "I" and are still considered "white". Diamond clarity and purity is graded from flawless down to heavily included. Quality usually used for good diamonds are VVS-VS or SI. These type of diamonds to the naked eye would normally be free of marks as they are graded by 10 times magnification.
